The campaign, “1000 new computers to
1000 children with leukemia”
started with numerous letters sent to our foundation saying,
“if only I had a computer…” This week we gave computers
to 130 children on tenterhooks. And we distributed
305 brand new computers with the newest technology up
till today.

First, a phone call came to the homes of our children
by their brother and sisters working in LÖSEV’s
Social Services Department, saying, “I heard that you
don’t have a computer and want one very much. Would
you like to be our guest in Ankara (or Istanbul) and receive a
brand new computer?” And before an answer, screams
of joy are heard from the other end of the line. As a matter
of fact, there can’t be a more significant answer than this…
Some of them travel very long
distances to receive the
computer they have always dreamt of.
But they don’t feel tired at
all, because in the end they’re going to receive what they’ve
been wanting so much. They are trained for two days
by voluntary teachers. When it’s time to go back home
they leave after kissing and hugging their teachers. We
overheard a conversation between one of our children and
his mom during the last distribution: With his
hand on the computer, which he still couldn’t believe
was his own said, “LÖSEV will never close down, will it?”
His mom’s answer was, “No son, it will never close down”…
