A Dreamlike Camp Adventure In Germany

We joined “Waldpiraten” camp of German Childhood Cancer Foundation with our five children who have overcome leukemia between the dates of 30 June- 08 August in Heidelberg, Germany.

Our children who set out from different points of Turkey met in Istanbul and they were the guests of WOW Hotels for a night before the journey.

They gaily carried out the daily activities that had been prepared by the foundation and camp officials, in company with their friends and camp consultants. Those activities included swimming, climbing, acrobatics, handiwork, cycling, etc. Children who got acquainted with a different culture, language and folks for the first time gained various experiences. They even taught Turkish words both to their friends and their consultants. In this way they laid the foundation of an eternal friendship through communicating with the other children with cancer in the camp.

Our children photographed various historical places, streets, buildings, and avenues, went shopping, and toured ‘The Old Town’ in Heidelberg which was exclusive for them. For the first time our children got the chance of seeing an opera named “Die Nachtingale” in Manheim. Apart from this they went on an excursion on the rivers of Rhine and Neckar on the boat which is used by firemen. They even got the chance of driving it.

In the end, all the children who joined the camp took the stage at the ‘Gala Night’ during which they exhibited all the skills they learned. Our children represented sorcery, acrobatics, and dance shows to their friends and officials successfully.

We render endless thanks to the officials and consultants of Die Deutsche Kinderkrebsstiftung (German Childhood Cancer Foundation) “Waldpiraten Camp”, the host for this journey during which our children knew a new country, and people and to Anadolu Sigorta for providing our travel insurances. They came back to our country after a magnificent nine-day camp.
