Each story reflects real experiences of resilience, solidarity, and hope — reminding us how kindness grows and multiplies when people stand together.

Caregiver Story

Two Battles, One Hope

In 2023, my three-year-old daughter was diagnosed with leukemia, and our lives changed overnight. While we were continuing her treatment journey, my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2024.

Trying to care for both of them at the same time was one of the most difficult periods of my life. It was a journey filled with fear, exhaustion and uncertainty.

Throughout this challenging time, LÖSEV never left us alone. Their financial and emotional support gave our family strength when we needed it most.

Today, my daughter has recovered, and my husband’s treatment is still ongoing. We continue this journey with hope and gratitude.

Hope Beyond Hardship: Learning to Rise Again

At the age of 26, during what should have been one of the happiest times of my life, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Just three months into my marriage, my life suddenly changed in ways I could never have imagined. I was working as a marine engineer, but I had to leave my profession due to my illness.

After my first surgery was not performed correctly, I had to undergo a second operation. This was followed by 16 cycles of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I am currently continuing my treatment with targeted therapy.

Throughout this journey, the lives touched by LOSEV, and especially the resilience of young children fighting this disease, gave me strength. Their hope became my hope. What I have been through has taught me never to give up and to stand up again, no matter how difficult the path may seem.

From Fear to Strength: Holding on to Hope

In 2023, my life changed instantly with the shock of being diagnosed with cancer. Waiting at the doors of oncology clinics was incredibly difficult. The fear, stress, and sadness that settled in my mind made this period one of the most challenging times of my life.

My greatest source of strength in this fight has been my children. They gave me the courage to keep going, even in the hardest moments.

Throughout this long and demanding journey, LOSEV never withdrew its support. Today, I am doing well and I believe I will continue to recover. I am deeply grateful to LOSEV for standing by my family and me every step of the way.

Lost a Loved One

Hope Born from Loss: Grateful for LOSEV

My sibling had been fighting cancer since childhood and managed to defeat the disease three times. During the periods of treatment in the hospital, I will never forget the visits of volunteers and clowns, and how donations were delivered to children in need. The distributions of meat, food, and clothing in Osmaniye during Eid al-Adha also brought us hope in those very difficult days.

Sadly, we lost my sibling three years ago at the age of 27. Yet one of the most meaningful things this illness left in our lives is LOSEV. It is the only organization I truly trust and believe in. I lost my sibling, but knowing that I can help other children gives me strength. We have grown up now—this is our time to give back.

Living with Cancer Around Me

I first heard the word “cancer” when I was 16 years old. Today I am 60. My journey with this disease began with my father’s throat cancer, and our struggle lasted for 20 years.

Over the years, we lost many loved ones to different types of cancer. Despite everything, I never lost hope.

I believe the only way to face this disease is through hope, effort, and positive energy.

The Road Where Hope Never Ends

My journey with LÖSEV began because of my son’s illness. Throughout the long treatment process, LÖSEV was always by our side.

Perhaps we were not among the ones who won this battle, but we always stood beside those who did. Life sometimes presents you with two choices: you can close yourself off and disappear, or you can choose life and continue to fight. I chose the second path.

During this journey, Prof. Üstün and LÖSEV gave me strength. Today, I have children and a large family across Türkiye. I am grateful for LÖSEV.

During this difficult journey, I often compare myself to a caterpillar. In order to become a butterfly and fly, I must go through a long and challenging transformation—and that journey is still continuing.

I am a mother living with illness. I have a two-year-old child who is deeply attached to me, and I hold on to him with all my strength. I believe that I will overcome this disease by holding on to that love.

I was diagnosed with bone cancer when I was 13 years old. In that moment, my life changed completely. While my friends were worrying about school exams, I was spending my days in hospital corridors, going through treatments and medical check-ups.

But I never stopped dreaming or learning. Even though I had to stay away from school during my treatment, I refused to give up. With determination and hard work, I eventually earned a place at Göynük Science High School.

Today I work as a dietitian at a vocational school. Helping people with health and nutrition means a lot to me. Cancer may have slowed my life for a while, but it never stopped me.

In 2023, I learned that I had breast cancer. At first, accepting it was not easy. There were moments when I felt hopeless and worried about the future, especially for my two young children. But instead of fearing what had not yet happened, I decided to focus on living in the moment.

During a difficult period of chemotherapy, when I was close to giving up, I met LÖSEV and attended one of their events. That day became a turning point for me. I realized that I was not alone. Seeing the courage and strength of others helped me focus on my treatment.

From Patient to Volunteer: A Story of Hope

My journey with LÖSEV began when I was diagnosed with lymphoma at the age of 19. I entered this path without knowing what to do or what awaited me.

I feel fortunate that LÖSEV supported me both financially and emotionally and helped me believe in hope again. Because of my treatment, I had to move to another city and stay away from my family and friends, but LÖSEV became my family.

During the many surgeries I went through, they visited me and regularly checked on me. While receiving chemotherapy I missed many events, but three years later I celebrated them after defeating cancer. Through the LÖSEV Youth Branch I traveled to many cities and made friends from all over Türkiye.

Cancer took many things from my life during those three years. I had to stand on my own feet and work. Throughout this journey, LÖSEV supported me and even provided job opportunities. Today I am healthy again, and now I volunteer with LÖSEV to bring hope to other patients and help grow this movement of kindness.

In 2024, discovering a lump changed my life completely within just 10 days. I have been fighting breast cancer for two years. After receiving 16 cycles of chemotherapy, I underwent surgery and later received 35 sessions of radiation therapy. I now continue with my regular three-month check-ups, and I know that with the support of LÖSEV, I will win this battle.

The Strength That Stood With Us: LÖSEV

I met LÖSEV during the time when my husband was receiving chemotherapy. I had been diagnosed with cancer one year before him, and before I could fully process my own illness, we learned that he had rectal cancer.

During this journey, I had to fight not only the disease but also my own fears. With the support of LÖSEV, I realized that I could overcome every challenge. I truly felt the strength of the helping hand extended to us. To every woman who reads these words and feels alone, I want to say this: believe in the power of solidarity. Fighting Lymphoma

My name is Azra and I am 23 years old. In October 2024, I went to the hospital with asthma complaints. During the examinations, doctors noticed a mass and biopsies were performed. From that day on, my life completely changed. Each day became a struggle. I grew weaker and my pain increased. I was hospitalized and doctors tried to manage my pain, but my condition kept getting worse. Even strong painkillers did not help. Eventually, I was diagnosed with Classical Hodgkin Lymphoma, Stage 2.

I spent months barely eating and even shaved my hair, which I loved so much. At that time, my only wish was to survive. I stayed away from my family for months, ate alone, and sometimes survived only on intravenous nutrition. I even had days when I could not drink water.

I received six cycles of chemotherapy. Today I am doing better and slowly gaining back the 36 kilograms I lost during treatment. During this time I also got married. I prayed constantly to be able to live.

Thanks to my family and the people I love, I am standing today and I am alive.

The Strength of Being a Woman Volunteer

Being a volunteer at LÖSEV taught me not only what it means to be part of an organization but also what true solidarity looks like. While witnessing the incredible battles fought by young children, I saw patience, strength, and hope in the eyes of their mothers. Those mothers reminded me that being a woman is not only an identity but also compassion, resilience, and endless love.

One of the most important things I learned there is this: sometimes a woman becomes a child’s hope, sometimes another woman’s strength, and sometimes a light in the life of someone she has never even met. LÖSEV taught me empathy, sharing, and above all the power of standing together.

Today I know that when women support one another, hope truly grows.
